Welcome to my homepage and blog!
I’m Jamie Wake and I’m a Community Campaigner in Whitley, Reading, Berkshire. I was a Council Candidate in the 2011 local elections and stood again as an Independent Candidate in the 2012 local elections to represent Whitley. I am standing again in the 2014 local elections.
I’m standing as an Independent Candidate. This means that I am not aligned to any political party, subject to any whip or subject to any party politics. I feel that if I was elected as an Independent Councillor for Reading Borough Council then I’d genuinely be able to meet the needs of the local residents rather than the needs of a political party.
When I decided to stand as an Independent Candidate, I made some promises and these are to:
- Continue to listen to residents and be accessible at all times
- Represent the rights and needs of our area on the council and make sure that my vote on the council is used for the benefit of Residents
- Protect valuable services used by people in our area and ensure that vulnerable adults and children get the support that they need
- Work with residents, local police teams and Neighbourhood Action Groups to cut crime in our area
- Fight for investment in our neighbourhoods to help build cleaner, stronger, safer communities
- Continue to fight against discrimination in our ward as well as Reading
- Be here all year – not just in the lead up to an election
Unlike some of the previous years candidates across the parties, I actually live in the Whitley ward and I believe that I am best placed to represent the needs of my neighbours.
If you’re a resident in Whitley, please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions.
